November 2007 Archives

Come meet Santa at the 2007 Festival of Trees, Philbrook Museum of Art's annual kickoff to the Christmas season. Santa will be at Philbrook on November 17 and 18, November 24 and 25 (Thanksgiving weekend), and December 1 and 2.

The annual event features special art created for the event, gingerbread houses created by area schoolchildren, and Christmas trees decorated by Tulsa designers. The trees are available for sale, with proceeds to benefit the museum.

Members' Day, on November 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., features the beautiful music of the Tulsa Boy Singers, Tulsa Oratorio Chorus, and other choirs, tasty treats, and photos with Santa. Guests of Philbrook members are welcome for $5 per person.

On December 1, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, there will be a special Toyland Party for children ages 4-10. Activities include a complimentary photo with Santa, holiday crafts, special refreshments and storytelling. Space is limited, so make your reservations early.

Even Santa vacations in Branson

In summer 2006, the Branson, Missouri, Convention and Vistors Bureau asked about a dozen members of the Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas (AORBS) to spend a weekend in Branson. They were filmed riding roller coasters at Silver Dollar City and clowning on stage at a number of Branson's theatres. The result is a three-minute promo set to a Beach Boys-like tune.

Santa David, who went to his first AORBS convention in Branson earlier in the year, was part of the group brought back for the video. In the video, he's the Santa in the red ballcap and red shirt. (You can see him at the left end of the chorus line at about 1:49, and in the back row on the right when all the Santas call out "Merry Christmas" at the end.)
